Human Higher Intelligence may become even more important as artificial intelligence grows more capable and begins shaping more areas of human life.
A few nights ago, a dream brought together subjects that at first seemed completely unrelated: an old friendship, pregnancy, motherhood, independence, responsibility, nature, artificial intelligence and the future.
Yet dreams rarely respect the neat categories we create when we are awake.
In the dream, I met an old friend I had once distanced myself from after feeling judged by her. In waking life, we had recently crossed paths again and spoken warmly. In the dream, however, she was about six months pregnant.
The father appeared largely uninterested in fatherhood.
The baby was kicking strongly.
And then something very simple happened.
A hand rested gently on the pregnant belly.
The baby became calm.
That image stayed with me.
Not because I believe every dream predicts something literal, but because sometimes a dream places several ideas beside one another until we notice a relationship we had not consciously seen before.

How We See A Future Already Forming?

Last night I dreamed of an old friend.
In waking life we had once discussed parenthood, raising children across cultures, and the difficult balance between our instinct to protect them and their need to develop independence.
In the dream she was six months pregnant.
The father appeared relatively uninterested in fatherhood.
Then the baby began kicking fiercely inside her.
She invited me to place my hand on her belly.
As soon as I did, the baby became quiet.
I laughed and told her:
“When he gives you hard kicks, call me.”
Today that image feels different.
Something enormous is being born into our civilisation.
Artificial intelligence.
Autonomous agents.
Quantum technologies.
Systems capable of doing things once belonging entirely to the human domain.
The future is kicking.
Sometimes very hard.
And humanity may not need people whose job is to stop that birth.
We may need people capable of placing a steady hand beside it.
People who can help others understand what is changing without becoming frightened by change itself.
People who remind us that independence and protection must remain balanced — exactly as they do when raising children.
When AI Meets HI: Human Higher Intelligence is not a question of competition, but of how different forms of intelligence can complement one another while human awareness continues to evolve.
What Happens When Creation Outpaces Responsibility?
“Creation becomes responsibility the moment what we create begins affecting life beyond ourselves.”
The relatively uninterested father in the dream may represent something broader than one individual.
He can be seen as a symbol of creation without sufficient responsibility for what has been created.
Human beings are extraordinarily inventive.
We build tools, systems and technologies capable of transforming civilisation.
But invention and wisdom do not always develop at the same speed.
We can create something before we completely understand its consequences.
We can celebrate capability before asking how that capability should be used.
That tension is not unique to artificial intelligence.
Humanity has faced it many times before.
The responsibility does not belong only to the technology.
It remains with the humans creating, directing and using it.
Can Presence Guide Without Controlling?
“The future may not need to be stopped. It may need a steady human hand beside it.”
The quietest moment in the dream may have carried the strongest message.
Nobody stopped the pregnancy.
Nobody stopped the baby from moving.
Nobody forced anything into silence.
A hand simply rested on the belly.
And the baby became calm.
Presence does not always mean control.
Sometimes presence regulates because another living being senses that it is not alone.
Perhaps our relationship with emerging technology requires something similar.
Not fear.
Not blind worship.
Not surrender.
Presence.
Human beings remaining consciously involved in what they are creating.
What Can Parenthood Teach Us About the Future?
“Protection becomes wisdom when it learns when to hold, when to guide and when to release.”
Parenthood contains one of the oldest human lessons about responsibility.
At first, protection is essential.
Later, guidance becomes more important.
Eventually, independence must be allowed.
Too little protection can leave a child vulnerable.
Too much protection can prevent growth.
The challenge is not choosing one side.
It is learning the balance.
This may also be useful when thinking about technological development.
We cannot protect humanity by freezing progress.
Neither should we abandon responsibility simply because innovation promises extraordinary capability.
The challenge is to guide development without controlling it completely, and to allow independence without becoming absent.
When Intelligence Meets Intelligence
Artificial intelligence and Human Intelligence do not have to meet as opponents.
Knowledge does not become smaller because another form of knowledge appears.
A calculator did not eliminate mathematics.
A telescope did not diminish human sight.
A microscope did not make observation irrelevant.
Each extended the range through which human beings could perceive, calculate and understand.
Artificial intelligence may become another extraordinary extension.
But HI is not simply a slower biological version of AI.
Human Intelligence emerges through an entire living being.
We reason.
We intuit.
We observe.
We imagine.
We experience.
We create meaning.
We develop consciousness through relationship, difficulty, love, loss, curiosity and awareness.
And perhaps the awakening taking place in our time is asking us to recognise that intelligence itself may be broader than we once believed.
What Does Human Higher Intelligence Add?

Human intelligence has often been measured through what can be demonstrated externally.
Memory.
Reasoning.
Calculation.
Language.
Problem-solving.
Academic achievement.
These capacities matter.
But human experience has always suggested something wider.
Intuition.
Insight.
Self-awareness.
Creativity.
Empathy.
The sudden understanding that arrives before we can explain how we reached it.
The ability to observe our own thoughts rather than simply obey them.
The awareness that asks not only:
What can I do?
but also:
Who am I becoming through what I do?
Perhaps HI — Human Intelligence — is also opening a doorway toward what we might call Human Higher Intelligence.
Not superiority.
Not domination.
Not competition.
An expansion of awareness.
The awakening process may be less about acquiring some exotic new ability and more about recognising dimensions of consciousness that human beings have carried all along.
Artificial intelligence can become part of this exploration rather than its enemy.
A new intelligence beside us may force us to examine our own more deeply.
How Can AI and HI Complement Each Other?
“The question is not only what intelligence can do, but what consciousness chooses to do with intelligence.”
AI can calculate.
HI can interpret.
AI can recognise patterns.
HI can give those patterns meaning.
AI may become extraordinarily good at answering how.
And it may increasingly participate in questions that once seemed uniquely human.
That does not diminish HI.
It may challenge Human Intelligence to move further into the territory it has often neglected:
why,
whether,
for whom,
at what cost,
and ultimately,
what kind of consciousness do we wish to become?
The most interesting future may therefore not be:
AI versus HI.
It may be:
AI + HI.
Complementation of knowledge.
Technology extending human capability while Human Intelligence continues evolving in awareness, meaning and responsibility.
As AI becomes part of our shared future, we are invited to keep asking the deeper human questions: why, whether, for whom and at what cost.
The heart is not the opposite of intelligence
And beyond calculation there remains another dimension of Human Intelligence.
The heart.
Parenthood.
Friendship.
Compassion.
Humour.
Touch.
Belonging.
The ability to sit beside another person when nothing needs to be optimised.
We often speak of intelligence as though it lives exclusively inside the brain.
Human life suggests otherwise.
The intelligence required to recognise another person’s silence is different from the intelligence required to solve an equation.
The intelligence required to know when protection has become restriction is different from the intelligence required to organise information.
One does not invalidate the other.
They belong to a larger landscape of knowing.
Technology can help us navigate the practical layers surrounding these relationships.
It may translate languages between multicultural families, remove administrative burdens, connect people across continents, support education, detect danger, organise care and perhaps one day solve scientific problems we currently consider impossible.
But these achievements do not disseminate love.
They may give love more room to operate.
The challenge will be remembering the difference.
Returning to Human Intelligence

Then another curious thing happened.
I had deliberately taken my weekend away from technology.
I returned to myself.
Nature.
Self-care.
Silence.
Observation.
Ordinary physical life.
And when I returned, the subject waiting for me was the technological future.
Almost as though AI had arrived at one side of the table and HI — Human Intelligence — had finally arrived from the beach. 🤣
Maybe neither should occupy the whole table.
Maybe the meeting itself is the point.
Cultivating Human Intelligence may begin with something surprisingly simple: protecting the conditions that allow awareness to deepen — rest, reflection, self-care, connection and time away from constant stimulation.
When AI Meets HI: Human Higher Intelligence becomes less about comparing forms of intelligence and more about how knowledge, awareness, responsibility and the human heart can meet within the same evolving future.
Closing Words
“May intelligence meet intelligence without fear, and may the human heart remain present in everything we create.”
May the coming quantum life invite humanity not to compete with its machines, but to awaken more fully to itself.
May AI bring extraordinary new capacities.
May HI rediscover dimensions of Human Higher Intelligence that civilisation has too often overlooked.
May reason walk beside intuition.
May information walk beside awareness.
May technology walk beside consciousness.
May the brain remain connected to the heart.
Not one cancelling the other.
Not one occupying the whole table.
Complementation.
May we create without abandoning responsibility.
May we advance without leaving our humanity behind.
May we welcome new intelligence without forgetting the intelligence already alive within us.
And may we remain curious enough to discover what becomes possible when AI meets HI.
The future does not need to be stopped.
It does not need humanity to prove itself superior.
It needs Human Intelligence to remain present.
